The new Tiger Lake-H processor is around 25% than its direct predecessor in the old XPS 15 9500 under sustained workloads, but the advantage can be even bigger in shorter benchmarks where the i7-11800H benefits from the high power limit. There are still some limitations during gaming and when you stress the CPU and GPU at the same time. The Windows power settings only offer the Balanced profile, but Dell offers additional options in the preloaded Power Manager. However, the iGPU of the Tiger Lake-H CPUs is much slower than the iGPU from the Tiger Lake-U chips you currently find in many laptops, so we would always recommend to get at least the smaller GeForce RTX 3050. If you just want a premium notebook without a dedicated GPU, you can once again get the XPS 15 without the GeForce GPU, so the integrated GPU from the processor takes care of all the graphics calculations. The is a multimedia laptop, so it does not use the most powerful graphics cards you get in gaming laptops. Backlight bleeding is no problem thanks to the display technology. If you already have problems with OLED smartphones, you should avoid the new display option when you configure the XPS 15. The PWM flickering at 60 Hz for brightness levels of 99% or lower is a bigger issue. However, this is not a huge problem thanks to the very high contrast ratio and you can still use it comfortable in bright environments. Our measurements show that the test unit does not meet the advertised brightness of 400 cd/m² with about 370 cd/m² on average, so it is the darkest panel within our comparison group. The panel is provided by Samsung (SDC414D) and the subjective picture quality is excellent: Crisp images, vivid colors, perfect blacks and extremely fast response times. Dell calls it 3.5K, which corresponds with a resolution of 3456 x 2160 pixels.
